Google Book review
On a wild island in the hinterland of Northern Ireland, a priest makes a horrific discovery, the badly burnt body of one of his parishioners. Even though the Troubles have ended, the past has come back to haunt Joseph Devine, an informer for the security forces.
Inspector Celcius Daly investigates the macabre murder and links it with the mysterious disappearance of a special branch detective. He begins to fear that the murder might be a prelude to something much more alarming - the destabilisation of the peace process itself.
I was handed Disappeared as an advance reader copy and found it to be a riveting read. As a whole it is an excellent portrait of a society and police force emerging from more than three decades of violence - and proves the fact that although the Troubles went on for far too long, for some they ended much too quickly.
Quinn weaves a number of strange incidents and interesting character studies into a compelling read. It is also one of the most nuanced thrillers I have read concerning the Troubles. Highly recommended.
